Three days in Scottsdale, Arizona

Scottsdale, Arizona is just outside of Phoenix with weather that rarely gets below 40 degrees. The dessert surroundings make for great hiking especially in the winter months. There is a reason many retire and move to this town.

Old Town

Old town is known for its shops, restaurants, galleries and bars. This location is a great place to stay if you want to be within walking distance of many things. The LOVE sign you see below is moved to different locations frequently. Its home is typically at the Civic Center.

Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center

The animals at this facility have been injured, orphaned, and displaced. This is a sanctuary for animals that can not be release in the wild. 100 percent of the tour fee provides the best care for the rescued animals. On the tour you will meet friendly wild animals, and hear their life stories.

Camelback Mountain

Located in Phoenix the Cholla Trail is a 2.4 mile out and back. It includes scrambling and has an elevation gain of approximately 1,250 feet. This is a great work out with beautiful views. Arriving early will help with rising temperatures and a parking spot. This is not a hike for beginners.

Lost Dog Wash Trail

Located in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve there are miles of trails. All of the trails are great for a beginner hiker without much elevation gain. Sunrise Peak is gorgeous at sunset and is only 3.6 mile out and back trail via Sunrise trail.

Other things to experience

Fashion Square is located in downtown with high end shops.

The Entertainment District is known for its night life in the downtown area.

Pinnacle Peak Park 3.5 out and back Moderate trail.

The Taliesin West is an architecture school that used to be Frank Lloyd Wrights’s winter home.
